Programme Manager (Natural Resources Governance Initiative)
Short Bio:

Percy F. Makombe has been with OSISA for four years and is the Programme Manager for the Natural Resources Governance Initiative.  This Initiative sees the resource challenge as two-fold: first it is about instituting a greater public dialogue and consultation which includes often marginalised groups on the future of the resource sector to promote transparency and accountability.

Secondly it is about designing strategies and policies to navigate the challenges that keep countries from optimising the benefits of mineral extraction. Before joining OSISA, Percy was Programme Manager for the Cape Town-based Economic Justice Network and in 2009 coordinated regional research on the social impacts of the financial crisis in southern Africa.

The same year he was instrumental in the formation and writing of the concept note for the now annually held Alternative Mining Indaba (AMI). This space was conceived as a counter space to the international Mining Indaba which is held in Cape Town (South Africa) every year and is attended by international mining companies. Percy has served in the steering committee of the Pan Africa Climate Justice Alliance (2009-2011) an African coalition of over 300 CSOs and faith-based networks  from 45 African countries working on climate justice.

In 2011 he served in the Britain Labour Shadow Taskforce on International Development Policy Review in the Working Group on: “Tackling global inequality and promoting sustainable development in a changing world”. Percy has also worked as a journalist for a number of publications including, Moto, Zimbabwe Independent, African Film & TV, Mundo Negro, Africa News Bulletin and Nigrizia. He holds a BA General from the University of Zimbabwe and an MA in Globalisation and Communications from the University of Leicester.
